Last weekend the twins and I went to a birthday party for a special little three-year-old, who happens to be the daughter of one of my oldest and best friends in the world. She recently moved closer to us, and we are so happy to get to spend more time together!
The birthday girl. Isn’t she adorable?
Of course, she couldn’t celebrate her third birthday without having a super-twirly dress to go with it. Since she loves Disney’s “Brave,” her mama asked me if I could whip up an all-green number especially for the party. I happily obliged using Little Lizard King’s Baby-Doll-Twirl Dress pattern that I am so loving right now.
A grosgrain ribbon hem made the skirt even more flippy!
Have I mentioned that many Little Lizard King patterns come with pieces for an 18-inch matching doll outfit? I used the scraps from the dress to make this tiny version, along with an with itty-bitty bow, to complete our gift to the birthday girl.
There were plenty of hugs to go around.
And even a few kisses, too.
Another adorable detail that my friend made for the party was a Merida headband for the birthday girl. If you have seen the movie, you know that the heroine, Merida, has long, curly, red locks. Based on an idea we saw on Pinterest, my crafty friend took a plain headband, peeled the cloth off, and then tied masses of red curling ribbon to it.
She even left some face-framing “bangs” around the front!
Of course, everyone but the birthday girl tried on the headband during the party. But I wanted to make sure Mama got some love for all her hard work!
I was surprised that Toots actually allowed me to put it on her and kept it on for a few pictures.
Then we had some bright green cupcakes. Little Man decided that cake is best eaten with a wooden spoon and mixed with crackers and cheese. Oh, and now every time I get ready to take his picture, he makes this face.
Took me awhile to realize he is imitating my camera-squint. Very flattering.
Sweet baby. Even when she’s covered in goo.
Now, go out and do something Brave today!
