Hello friends! Continuing with our recent sensory play discussion, I thought I would share a fun sensory bin I put together to keep the twins busy on several cold afternoons this week.
My inspiration for this bin came from a set of handmade wooden manipulatives I ordered from one of my new favorite shops, Mama May I. Aren’t the colors yummy? These wooden color sorting bowls and sort apples were a perfect addition to a simple bin of white rice. Hop on over and check out the shop if you get a chance- I ordered a few other sets that will make an appearance in the twins’ stockings (and eventually the blog) this Christmas.
In addition to the wooden objects, I mixed in some sparkly pom-poms, beads, and large buttons from my sensory/craft stash. I made sure the colors coordinated with the wooden bowls in case the little ones wanted to do some color sorting during their exploration.
For tools, I added a few containers from my kitchen cabinets, toilet paper tubes, and measuring cups for dumping, filling, and pouring. I also cut off the top of an empty water bottle to serve as a funnel. Add a large picnic blanket and two curious toddlers, and you have yourself a sensory experience!
As you can see, we had a blast.
Discovering…
Manipulating…
Pretending…
And simply having fun!
