Hello friends!
I’m so excited to be kicking off this year with a new focus for Twodaloo. Part of my extended holiday break from posting was spent outlining a plan for 2014 that will hopefully appeal to my regular readers as well as the new friends who continue to join us every day.
The Plan: Focusing Down
For the next couple of months, I want us to really focus down on the “meaty stuff” if you will- the fundamentals of early language and play and activities that you can do at home to apply the knowledge and techniques that you learn here.
Language and Communication
This week I’d like to begin by focusing on my favorite topics of all- early language development and play. I’ll take you through the basics of development, how to stimulate it in your home, and if/when you should be worried about your child’s communication skills.
Activities and More
After that, I’ll be going through all of our core areas of focus- types of play that are great for language AND overall development. We’ll devote weeks to sensory play, art, music, pretend play, and much more. I’ll give you an overview of WHY these types of play are important, HOW to use them to stimulate development, and simple activities to try at home. I’ll also recommend some other blogs and resources to check out for more ideas in each area, and since I have an obsession with quality toys and materials, I’ll be giving you the lowdown on some products that I love as well.
Special Posts and Projects
Now, just because we are focusing down doesn’t mean we won’t be having any fun 😉 I’ll still be sprinkling seasonal/holiday activities in the mix- celebrating special traditions and the changing of the seasons isn’t just fun- it’s a great way to get in some language and learning within a meaningful context (post to come). I’ll also be continuing to participate in the Exploring Reggio series, so if you are a fan of those posts (they are some of my favorites), never fear. They aren’t going anywhere!
Getting Personal/Just for Fun
Finally, on weekends I still reserve the right to publish more personal posts to stay connected with you all! That’s when you’ll see any parenting posts, reflections, creative projects, or anything else I might have to offer that week.
OH! And stay tuned for the addition of a newsletter soon- once I get it up and running it will be a great way to offer my content packaged up neatly along with some “extras” that won’t be on the blog.
I have some other side projects in the works that I’ll reveal soon- that’s enough for now! I’ll be back tomorrow with my first post on early language.

Looking forward to all of the good stuff on your blog this year!
