Hi, friends! If you’ve been following us on Facebook, you know that last week we were in full party-prep mode, getting ready for a Little Chef party to celebrate the twins’ second birthday! You may remember from our Happy Birthday Play post (a great source for fun birthday play activities for toddlers) that my kiddos actually turned two back in early January, but we decided to push their “official” birthday celebration a few weeks later to give us time to recover from all the holiday festivities and give out-of-town family a chance to attend. We know we may not be able to get away with this when the twins get older, so we are taking advantage now!
For this year’s party, we decided to limit the guest list to family and a few close friends. The twins had a great time and hopefully the guests enjoyed themselves, too! Here are some pictures of our shenanigans and a few crafty highlights.
What We Wore:
For the “chefs of honor,” I sewed some adorable aprons and hats using this awesome tutorial from Tidbits. I love them because they use velcro instead of ties, so the kids will be able to put them on and off themselves when they are a little older. The picture above is from a photo shoot/sensory play session we did a few days before the party…more pictures to come this week!
My mother found some cute ready-made aprons and hats at Hobby Lobby, so the other kids got to join in on the dress-up fun, too! See our little chefs cooking in their new play kitchen?
Even Mommy and Daddy got to wear hats!
Since I knew the aprons probably wouldn’t stay on for the entire party, I made some easy cupcake shirts (pictured on my less-than-enthusiastic model above) for the twins using Tulip Shimmer Sheets. It took me about five minutes to cut the pieces and iron them on- no sewing required!
Decor
Guests were welcomed by a giant chef’s hat wreath on the front door.
Our playroom/dining room was transformed into a “Birthday Cafe” for the party.
The rest of the house was decorated with photos, chef hats, and utensils in a red and blue color scheme. I’ll share more about decorating with photos in my next party post- I have too many pictures to share in one post!
Party Favors
Our little chef guests got gift bags with home made play dough and fun kitchen utensils to take home. They also got to keep their aprons and hats.
Activities
After working up an appetite cooking in our new play kitchen, all the little chefs gathered in the cafe to make their own pizzas. As usual, we had to be quick so the twins didn’t eat every single topping before the pizzas went into the oven!
After all the pizzas were eaten, it was time to decorate cupcakes! Although I have taken a cake decorating class and enjoy making fancy desserts, it was nice (and more fun for the kids) to step back and let them do all the work .
All-in-all, the party was a success. Everyone left with full tummies, great memories, and big smiles!

SO cute!
Thanks, Tracy! It was fun!
What an awesome party theme! Great hands-on fun for little ones, and it looks beautiful! Definitely pinning!
Thank you for pinning! I think the little ones had much more fun than if I had spent hours decorating fancy cupcakes. At least that’s what I’m telling myself, anyway 😉
I love it!!! You could tell they were having so much fun!!! And all of your decor was amazing! Can’t wait to see the rest of the pics!
Gorgeous photos and what a great theme for a birthday party. I might have to steal it for Peanut’s 3rd birthday in May. He loves cooking and baking. And we both love cupcakes! 😉
Please do! It was so much fun, and I think a three-year-old might enjoy it even more!
Hurrah! In the end I got a webpage from where I ccan really obtain valuable information concerning my study and knowledge.
