One morning last week we woke to a dreary drizzling sky. Our plans to spend the morning at the park thwarted, we turned to our brand new shipment of art supplies (I absolutely cannot resist them) which contained several large jars of powdered tempera, a medium that I have been excited to introduce to the twins.
I first gave them a tray with a few primary colors to explore with pompoms at the table, which they happily smeared all over scrap pieces of cardboard. I had intended on giving them a spray bottle to add water to their creations, but then realized that putting their masterpieces in the rain might be even more fun. After a few moments of watching the rain slowly transform their initially dry art into vibrant, runny rainbows, both children wanted to get hands-on, so I grabbed a huge piece of cardboard from the garage, threw it down on the sidewalk in the drizzle, refilled their trays, and let them have at it. Here are a few photos from the morning:
One of my faves- Syd at work with her sun hat on and mud boots on the wrong feet!
It was a process art kinda day! If anyone was wondering, any excess powder rinsed completely off the sidewalk with the rain and a little help from the hose.
