Anyone can be an artist.
In our case, all it took was a sturdy base (an old wire locker basket),
some beautiful materials in interesting containers,
and a simple presentation by a sunny window.
They did the rest themselves.
It’s all about enjoying the process!
It was so much fun to watch them engaged so intently with these materials. They poked, pushed, dropped, and slid the dowel rods in and out, a wonderful fine motor and spatial reasoning exercise. The different-sized pompoms were great for problem-solving because some were too large to fit through the holes in the basket, so they ended up tucked into the tops of the rods. And the language, oh, the language! I heard so many novel phrases as they played- the speech pathologist in me was jumping for joy! My son was very eager to show Daddy our “scuuushuh” when he got home from work.
*Thank you Craft Project Ideas.com for contributing to our awesome pompom collection!

Wow! I love this! It’s like the always popular pipe cleaners through a colander activity, only you’ve kicked it up a notch!
The wheels are turning in my head…wondering how we can do something similar…
