Hi friends! Today I thought I would share a little more about the “Affirmation Station” from Mama Tex’s Little Pumpkin Baby Shower. Although ours was pumpkin themed, this is a very personal, meaningful idea that could be adapted for any theme at any time of the year.
Mama Tex is planning on welcoming Baby Tex into the world with a home birth, and is focused on surrounding herself with positive energy and messages of encouragement from her loved ones when the big day arrives. To help her, we decided that instead of a traditional guest book, we would have shower attendees visit the “Affirmation Station” and express their love and support in a couple different ways.
First, we provided a simple journal with an uplifting quote on the front for guests to write positive messages in. The idea is that Mama Tex can read these messages while she is in the early stages of labor to help her stay in a positive place. I typed up these instructions and put them in a cute white frame…please excuse the crooked type. We were having printer issues at the last minute 😉
I prettied up some plain glass bottles by coating the insides with acrylic paint and tying on a fun pumpkin button with some jute twine. They were the perfect size to hold pens and Sharpies for the next activity.
To give Mama Tex something more tangible to hold onto, we found some wooden beads in different colors at Hobby Lobby and encouraged guests to write messages on them with Sharpies. I tested them before the shower to be sure the ink would not rub off, and they worked perfectly! We called them Mama Tex’s “Beads of Courage.” Mama Tex will be able to use these throughout her labor to meditate with and to remind her of all the people in her life who are rooting for her 😉
Here are some shots of a few of Mama Tex’s beads. I sent her home with a bunch of blanks as well so friends and family who were not able to be at the shower could still contribute.
And there you have it! A positive “Affirmation Station” for a mama-to-be. I think every mama could benefit from something like this, home birth or not!
