Although Halloween is by far my favorite holiday, I must admit that this year I had some reservations. My kiddos have been going through a, ahem, difficult phase recently which has made my expectations for fun outings in public places drop to sub-zero status. The past few weeks in my house have been filled with tantrums of epic proportion, some so enormous that they are still floating in the atmosphere somewhere over the Gulf of Mexico. Haunted house? Horror movie? Hogwash! Nothing could be as harrowing as an afternoon here when the twins are in full effect. Give me a blood-thirsty zombie any day.
But I digress. Although I was skeptical about how our first trick-or-treating excursion would go, I dutifully/obsessively constructed two tiny costumes. If they were going to kick and scream their way through Halloween, I at least wanted them to be cute while doing it.
Behold! A sweet smiling Pooh bear (her FAVORITE)!
And don’t forget Tigger, too!
Although we were invited to go trick-or-treating with friends from our playgroup, we decided to stick around our own neighborhood just in case of meltdowns. It seemed too good to be true that they could both survive the whole night without any drama, and we wanted to be within walking distance of home. But lo and behold…they both had a blast!
Little Man was off and running the minute we hit the sidewalk.
Sister wasn’t far behind!
Our neighbors always set up a little party in our cul-de-sac for Halloween and serve hotdogs and candy to passers-by. This year they set up a fun ping-pong toss game that the twins could not get enough of.
Toots kept laughing as loud as she possibly could to ensure that everyone could hear how much fun she was having!
They also had a giant inflatable spider and pumpkin that was fascinating to the toddler set.
After visiting with the neighbors we decided to climb in our wagon and hit up the neighborhood for spooky, sugary snacks. Although I don’t have pictures of the actual trick-or-treating, it was AWESOME! Both little ones were super excited to be able to participate, and it was priceless to see their little faces when they got treats dropped in their buckets. The speech therapist in me giggled with glee every time I heard one of them say “Ti Teet” (trick or treat) and sign/say “Da Doo” (thank you). We only went to a few houses, but it was definitely worth it!
We also walked to a neighborhood church that had a free harvest festival set up for the community children. The twins had a great time playing all the little games and looking at all the crazy costumes. I get all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it
Sometimes, you just need a night like this to remember why you became a parent in the first place. For us, at least, it makes sitting in the path of a “twin-nado” just a little more bearable.
Twodaloo!

P.S. Tonight I will post a tutorial for our DIY ears and tail…perfect to pin or bookmark for next year, dress up, school plays, or just for fun!

OH MY, these are two of the cutest costumes I’ve seen! Love them!
Thanks, Lindsay! They were fun to make!
Inspiring quest there. What occurred after?
Good luck!
