Last weekend I was invited to an alphabet baby shower for an old friend. I loved the idea behind the shower…my friend wanted an alphabet wall in her nursery, so each person that was invited to the shower was assigned a different letter to bring for the wall. We were told that the nursery would be decorated with the colors chocolate and aqua, the letters were to be gender neutral, and there needed to be a way for us to sign the back of our masterpiece. Although I couldn’t attend the shower, I wanted to be sure to let her know how happy I am for her by contributing to the alphabet wall. I was assigned the letter “U.” Wanna see what I did?
First, I rummaged around my house until I found the perfect backdrop for my letter. I needed something that was the right size and sturdy enough to hang my letter on and nail a hanger into. After much consideration, I settled on this lid from a wooden Cucina box. You may remember this box as my “cigar box” from the Baby Stache’ Bash shower.
*Please excuse the photo quality. I was in a hurry! The front of the lid was ok, but the back was even better. I needed something that looked a little rustic.
Next, I nailed a hanger onto the back of the frame.
After that, I was ready to get creative. I wanted to bring some color to my frame and decided to use some adhesive craft fabric, also left over from the Baby Stache’ Bash, to cover the wooden cross pieces on the lid. The first time I did it, the staples showed through, so I took the fabric off and glued some white strips of paper onto the wood with Elmer’s Glue.
Now I was able to apply the adhesive fabric without any issues.
And now for the fun part…the letter! I was able to get this bona fide horseshoe for free from (who else) Mama Tex! What would I do without her?
I thought it was the perfect choice for a tiny Texan, boy or girl.
To apply it, I used a generous amount of Gorilla Glue and weighed it down with a heavy bowl of oranges. Gorilla Glue expands as it dries, so every few minutes I checked for and wiped away any excess.
And there you have it! The finished product. Best part? I spent ZERO dollars (but lots of love) creating it. That’s my kind of project!
Until Next Time,
Twodaloo!

Very cool, love it! That’s my kind of craft
Thanks, Valerie! I agree!
That is SO cute! And what a great idea for the shower. I hope she shares a photo of all 26 letters on the wall- I would love to see the finished project.
Thanks, Samantha! I hope she shares a picture, too. I’ve been wanting to do this in our playroom…maybe this is the inspiration I needed!
And I absolutely LOVE the finished product. And I’m super excited that I made it on your blog:). Now if I could just find time to hang all the letters. I’ll send you a pic when I do. I really enjoy reading your blog!
Gee. I don’t understand why you can’t find the time to hang all the letters. What the heck do you do all day
