In yesterday’s post, I mentioned that I have been working on getting our house organized. There will be many more posts to come on this topic…for the present, let’s just say it has been a MASSIVE undertaking. During the months of bed rest, extended hospital stays, and finally NICU time surrounding the twins’ birth, my home office somehow became the “catch-all” room for anything and everything that we needed to get out of the way, and I’m just now getting around to sorting through it all with the intention of turning the room into an upstairs school/play area.
To give you an idea of just how full the room was, let me show you something that I found buried in the sea of books, linens, home decor items, and toys….
…a full-sized cedar chest circa 1940.
This chest belonged to my husband’s grandfather and was manufactured by Roos Sweetheart. It had been sitting in an awkward little loft area upstairs that I am currently turning into a sewing space before it was relegated to the junk room when the twins were born.
I decided to move it downstairs to a new home in my entryway. I’ve been wanting to redo this little area, and now I have the perfect excuse!
As you can see, this chest shows a fair amount of wear and tear in the finish.
Although it has some interesting detailing on the front, I can’t help but wonder how it would look if I painted it. But at the very least I will be adding a cushion to the top so we can use it as a bench as well as extra storage.
What do you think of my future bench? If it were yours, would you paint it or just refinish it? I’ll post pictures once I make my decision
