I am so excited to announce a new weekly feature on Twodaloo…the Discover and Explore Linky Party! I have joined a lineup of fabulous bloggers including Shaunna from Fantastic Fun and Learning, Jacquie from KCEdventures, Chelsey from Buggy and Buddy, and Deborah from Teach Preschool to share resources and activities every Wednesday based on a specific theme. How cool is that?
If you are a parent, teacher, or therapist who is looking for themed play and learning activities, chances are Discover and Explore will be the place for you! We hope that by combining our ideas and activities and inviting other amazing bloggers from around the web to add their own, this linky will become an amazing one-stop-shop for lesson planning because we will be doing all the legwork for you! And since each of the hosts focuses on slightly different ages and aspects of teaching and learning, we hope to offer something for everyone. If you aren’t already familiar with my brilliant co-hosts, I encourage you to check out their websites- every single one of them is simply stellar!
Now, on to this week’s theme…Back to School!
Even though my twins are still pretty young (2.5), we’re already thinking hard about school. There are lots of decisions to make, but for now I am perfectly happy keeping them home with me to continue our play and learning activities together, and very thankful that I have the opportunity to do so! Since I believe that the most important thing for children at this stage of development is open-ended play with stimulating materials, we don’t do tons of structured activities on a daily basis (even though it may look that way on the blog). But I do enjoy designing themed activities and invitations to play based on their current interests, which you can find by hovering on the “themes” tab on my menu bar and selecting from the menu that pops up below.
One thing that I plan on reintroducing this fall is a short “circle time” where we can talk about the schedule for the day, sing a few songs, read a book or two, and do a weather check. I created this felt weather board for our group “tot school” play dates when the twins were younger and it has been a great circle time tool. Click on the picture above to see how you can make your own!
If you have little ones who are going to be attending preschool outside the home in the near future, you may want to check out our post Choosing the Best Preschool for Your Child. I invited Mary Catherine of Fun-A-Day (a pre-k teacher and fantastic blogger) to share her top tips on the subject, and boy, did she deliver!
And now, it’s your turn. We’d love for you to share how you Discover and Explore: Back to School!
